RESPECT THE RULES

Speed cushions and speed tables, already implemented on many streets in Center City, should now be installed on Pine and Spruce to provide adequate traffic calming. Unlike bike lanes, speed tables actively reduce vehicle speeds while benefiting all vulnerable users, including pedestrians. Elevated and well-lit pedestrian crosswalks—placed strategically, even mid-block where necessary—would further enhance safety by increasing visibility and ensuring safer crossings.
Improved signage on the rules of the road, along with radar speed signs, would help reinforce traffic regulations and encourage compliance. Lowering the speed limit would further contribute to safer streets, reducing the likelihood and severity of accidents. Additionally, cyclist education is essential for fostering responsible riding habits. Bikers should be encouraged to slow down, avoid riding against traffic, and prioritize safety by wearing helmets and using front and rear lights, side reflectors, side-view mirrors, and bells. A culture of patience and awareness among cyclists would help create a safer, more harmonious environment for all road users.
