EMERGENCY VEHICLES MANEUVERING

The biggest problem with installing a bike lane barrier on a one-way street is that it reduces the ability of emergency vehicles to maneuver around traffic, leading to dangerous delays in response times. Since one-way streets typically have limited space, barriers prevent vehicles from pulling over to the side to allow ambulances, fire trucks, and police cars to pass. Without an escape route, traffic congestion can trap emergency responders, delaying critical care, fire suppression, or law enforcement actions. This can be particularly problematic in dense urban areas like Philadelphia, where narrow streets and heavy traffic already pose challenges for first responders.
